One of the favorite monologues at Forward Theater's Monologue Festival this weekend was Kimberly Yarnall's "The Nuts That Changed My Life" superbly performed by Forward Theater Advisory Company member Michael Herold.

It elicited quite a few requests for Tracy's hot nut recipe which we're sharing with everyone here.

If you weren't able to join us for the show, we've included an excerpt from the monologue below so you'll be able to understand and enjoy the fun of hot nuts, too.

“The Nuts That Changed My Life” by Kimberly Yarnall

A bowl of hot nuts and a ball game can really help a guy relax.

Which is why I thought it was so extraordinary when I met Tracy. We were at this cocktail party which had too much alcohol and not enough snacks. We were in the kitchen lamenting this fact and she looks me right in the eye and asks, “Do you like nuts?” I almost proposed on the spot. Instead, I very suavely said, “As much as the next guy. Do you?” And she said: “Let’s get out of here and head back to my apartment and I’ll mix up some nuts and we can watch a movie.” At which point I almost came in my pants. Instead I replied, a bit too eagerly, “I’ll get your coat.”

Now I need to talk to you about Tracy’s nuts. You might want to write this down. She roasted a huge bag of mixed raw nuts from Trader Joe’s in the oven for about 10 or 15 minutes. And then she melted butter. (Butter! I know. You’re thinking: Butter on nuts? Throw me down and take me repeatedly that sounds too good to be true.) In the butter she mixed chopped rosemary, chile pepper, and brown sugar which she poured all over the warm nuts. We ate like the gods of Olympus.
